About Sandra Drabant
As a Board Certified Art Therapist (ATR-BC) and Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC, Illinois) I work with my clients to help them use creativity to reach their identified goals. I currently work at the University of Michigan, Michigan Medicine Rogel Cancer Center, and have taught graduate students in the Masters of Art Therapy program at the University of Queensland.
I received my BA in Fine Art and Graduate Diploma in Education in Australia, and earned my Masters in Art Therapy from the University of Illinois in Chicago. I have taught at all levels, including in university, community college, and high school settings. Since 2000 I have delivered consulting services, led art workshops and conducted other art-based and art therapy services under my company Art Ever After.
In my own art work I enjoy painting layered canvases of color and texture, and enjoy the surprises this intuitive process can bring. I strive to help my students, clients and art-making workshop participants develop their art skills, and ignite their creativity and imagination.

About Art Therapy
"When Art Therapy Goes Virtual" - a recent Michigan Medicine article (The University of Michigan Rogel Cancer Center's Thrive newsletter) by Mary Clare Fischer about how one patient transcends her ‘moat’ against COVID-19 while, as her art therapist, I find unexpected benefits to delivering art therapy services online.
Art therapy is a mental health profession that enriches the lives of individuals, families, and communities through active art-making, creative process, applied psychological theory, and human experience within a psychotherapeutic relationship.
Art therapy, facilitated by a professional art therapist, effectively supports personal and relational treatment goals as well as community concerns. Art therapy is used to improve cognitive and sensorimotor functions, foster self-esteem and self-awareness, cultivate emotional resilience, promote insight, enhance social skills, reduce and resolve conflicts and distress, and advance societal and ecological change.
